Our art retreats are based on Stella Canfield's decades of experience creating and teaching art in Europe and the United States. Your home base will be Stella's artists' retreat in the village of Barzitsa, near Varna on the Black Sea. Several years ago, Stella and her husband Michael established a second home in this charming village, where they now spend part of the year. The quintessential old world village, Barzitsa is surrounded by forest, gorgeous fields of poppies, rape, sunflowers, corn and grains, depending on the season. Welcoming villagers watch over sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, donkeys, horses and visitors. Inspiration for your art is beyond abundant, enhanced by the quiet and slow pace of village life. With the coast of the Black Sea just a few kilometers away, more interesting small cities, villages and historic sites stimulate the eye. And Varna, the most beloved city in Bulgaria, is only 40 miles away.
